Y-12 provides opportunities for small, small disadvantaged, and woman-owned businesses and for minority institutions.

Vision and Mission

Vision

In 5 years the B&W Y-12 National Security Complex Socioeconomic Program Office will be recognized as the premier contractor for the utilization of small businesses, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and Minority Educational Institutions in meeting Y‑12’s National Security Mission. This will be achieved by careful planning, dedication and commitment by the entire Y‑12 staff to ensuring success of the program.

Mission

It is the mission of the Socioeconomic Program Office to ensure the utilization of small businesses (small, small disadvantaged, woman-owned, highly under-utilized business zones, veteran-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses) by providing the maximum practicable opportunities to participate in subcontracting of services and products. The mission is achieved through the support of a diverse vendor base comprised of local, regional, and national small businesses; Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); and Minority Educational Institutions (MEIs).

The Socioeconomic Program Office diligently conducts progressive activities associated with

  • in-reach programs, designed to provide Y-12 staff with information about the capabilities of small business and of HBCUs and MEIs
  • outreach responsibilities, established to communicate Y-12's small business objectives, expectations, requirements, and accomplishments to the community at large
  • a world class mentor protégé program, established to assist in the development of small businesses, HBCUs, and other MEIs
and strives to maintain excellence in management and administration of the overall Socioeconomic Program.
