HBCU/MEI Protégés

Y-12 currently has five mentor protégé agreements with HBCUs. In 2010, Y‑12 expects to increase this number to seven HBCUs and one MEI.

  • Fisk University is a Historically Black College and University located in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2006 Fisk University was named one of the Newsweek-Kaplan survey's top 25 universities in the nation. Fisk University performs research and development on various technologies.

  • Norfolk State University is one of the largest predominantly black institutions in the nation. The only HBCU to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in optical engineering, Norfolk State University also offers degrees in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physics.

  • South Carolina State University (SCSU) is a Historically Black College/University (HBCU) located in Orangeburg, South Carolina, providing services in the following areas:
    • Nuclear Engineering Program
    • Student Internships and Co-Op Programs
    • Environmental Sciences
