HBCU/MEI Protégés

Y-12 currently has five mentor protégé agreements with HBCUs. In 2010, Y‑12 expects to increase this number to seven HBCUs and one MEI.

Fisk University is a Historically Black College and University located in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2006 Fisk University was named one of the Newsweek-Kaplan survey's top 25 universities in the nation. Fisk University performs research and development on various technologies.

Norfolk State University is one of the largest predominantly black institutions in the nation. The only HBCU to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in optical engineering, Norfolk State University also offers degrees in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physics.
