Outreach Responsibilities

Mr. Kohlhorst talks with attendees at an SPO-sponsored event.
Outreach activities play a large part in communicating Y‑12's small business objectives, expectations, requirements, and accomplishments to the community at large. Y‑12 staff, including senior management, is strongly committed to sponsoring and participating in numerous public forums, conferences and professional associations in support of small businesses.
At various times during the year, Y-12 hosts one-day training seminars to assist small businesses. A seminar may feature business-related modules that include general accounting, proposal writing, Defense Contractors Audit Agency audit preparation, and an explanation of what is expected in a Y-12 proposal.
Y-12 hosts, sponsors, and attends a number of local, regional, and national conferences and forums. Small businesses are invited to attend and share booth space with Y-12 personnel. In some cases, Y-12 pays for small businesses' registrations, specifically that of Y-12 protégés.
The following is a list of typical outreach efforts, including conferences and forums sponsored and/or attended by Y-12 personnel:
- DOE Small Business Conference (sponsor)
- East Tennessee Business Association (ETEBA) (sponsor)
- East Tennessee Economic Council Breakfast (sponsor)
- East Tennessee Veterans’ Business Conference (co-sponsor)
