B&W Y‑12 President and General Manager Darrel P. Kohlhorst
In 2011, B&W Y‑12 invested $737,000 in more than 100 East Tennessee nonprofit organizations and made two new major community commitments. The company pledged $400,000 over four years to Knoxvilles new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Academy and $250,000 over four years to Emory Valley Center, a program that has been caring for people with disabilities since 1955.
Y‑12 also concluded a quarter billion dollars in environmental clean-up and demolition work funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This investment was a significant step toward an ongoing site transformation designed to prepare Y‑12 for meeting the nations emerging national security challenges.

Y‑12s 2011 contributions in support of community enrichment, education, and health and human services total $737,112.
In addition to Y‑12 financial support, hundreds of employees gave their time and expertise serving in local government; as mentors, tutors, coaches and scoutmasters for youth; and as coordinators for numerous community projects. Believing that the best way to lead is by example, members of B&W Y‑12s senior management team serve on more than 20 community boards and hold numerous positions with industry organizations. B&W Y‑12 corporate funds are used to cover the cost for 501(c)3 organizations using the public access facilities in the New Hope Center.
We continue to focus on protecting our nation, using resources wisely and investing in our community. We work hard at making lasting, substantive investments in Oak Ridge, Greater Knoxville and East Tennessee by assisting the many agencies and organizations working to improve education, promote economic development and help those in need.
