Cooperative Education Program
A cooperative education program will enhance your academic achievements with hands-on work experience. You help us with regular activities and special projects while we help you gain valuable work experience and establish relationships with some of the world's most internationally recognized technical experts.
Our co-op program offers challenging assignments with a competitive salary based on your current academic class status.
You'll be eligible to receive company benefits, such as medical and dental insurance, holidays, vacation, and educational assistance. Any student whose home/school is outside a reasonable commuting distance from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, will also be reimbursed for traveling expenses.
Who is eligible?
We consider students in the following areas for co-op positions:
- Chemistry,
- Computer Science,
- Materials Science,
- Physics or
- Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Nuclear or Software).
You must be willing to commit to completing at least three (3) semesters of work sessions at BWXT Y‑12. If your position with BWXT Y‑12 requires a Department of Energy security clearance, you must be a U.S. citizen.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an engineering or scientific discipline
- Must apply through the Co-op Program at the college they are attending
- Must have an overall Grade Point Average of 2.8 or above and meet the requirements of their college's Co-op program
How do I apply?
Contact your school's co-op counselor for information about specific openings, application deadlines and packages. We will conduct interviews at your school or in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
