Plan to attend the Readiness Workshop July 28‑30 hosted by B&W Y‑12.

We have completed plans for the ninth DOE complex-wide Readiness Workshop, a joint initiative of the NNSA Y‑12 Site Office and B&W Y‑12. The wide cross section of Readiness Workshop participants from contractors, DOE, DNFSB and outside experts provides a unique opportunity to promote improved communication on readiness issues and concerns and a forum for sharing lessons learned and effective site improvement initiatives.

Based on feedback from the 2008 Readiness Workshop, the focus for this year’s workshop will be ongoing readiness activities and lessons learned from the complex along with plan for implementation and training for revised DOE Order 425.1D. Topics will include:

  • Path to Getting Ready and Transition to Operation After Readiness Review
  • Graded Approach to the Application of Readiness Process to Smaller Activities and Projects
  • Salt Waste Processing Facility Safety Basis Implementation Using Positive Management Oversight Risk/Readiness Trees (MORT)
  • EM Standard Review Plan for Readiness Assessments
  • CDNS presentation on feedback from their site reviews of readiness process highlighting good practices and areas requiring improvement
  • Sites preparing for major startups focusing on readiness process being used to get ready, successes, issues/concerns and current status - HEUMF, WTP, CMRR, SRS MOX, etc.
  • Update on Safety Basis Implementation Validation Reviews and the new DOE Standard that is being developed and how that interfaces with 425.1
  • Discussion on the need for contractor development of a guide on how to get ready - do we need one and if so what topics should it cover? What are the biggest obstacles to being ready and how do we overcome them? Do we need to develop training for sites on getting ready?
  • Presentation on DOE HQ Program for Certification of Review teams - What is the status and progress on training and certification of review teams?
  • Revised DOE Order, 425.1D, Verification of Readiness to Start-up or Restart of Nuclear Facilities
    • Comments Received during RevCom and DOEs response and follow-up actions
    • Training
    • Implementation at site offices and contractors

We have worked with key DOE and contractor personnel to establish the detailed agenda for this year’s workshop. We will be meeting at the Hilton Knoxville Airport again this year July 28–30.

A reception will be held immediately following Day 1 activities. We encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity to meet and network with other workshop attendees and share similar issues or concerns from across the site.

We look forward to seeing you in July. If you have questions about the workshop, contact us.
