United Way contributions at the Y-12 National Security Complex reached a record high in 2011, the company’s managing and operating contractor, B&W Y-12, announced today. NNSA Releases Final Request for Proposal for Consolidated Contract Competition for Nuclear Production Operations
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) today issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the management and operation of the Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn. and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, with an option for phase in of Tritium Operations performed at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, S.C. The RFP also includes a separate severable line item for the project management of the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) at the Y‑12 National Security Complex. more...

Aquatic biologists have continued to document long-term improvement in the ecological health of East Fork Poplar Creek. The stream originates within the Y‑12 National Security Complex and flows through the City of Oak Ridge. Y‑12 Apprentice Program graduates first class in almost 30 years
The Y‑12 Apprentice Program held the first graduation ceremony in almost 30 years today at the site’s New Hope Center. Nine apprentices, including members of the carpenter’s, painter’s, insulator’s and ironworker and rigger’s unions, received their certificates of achievement for on-the-job and classroom training. more...
Y‑12 makes Thanksgiving donation to Appalachian families
More than 80 families in rural Appalachia will enjoy Thanksgiving meals thanks to employees in the Facilities, Infrastructure and Services (FI&S) organization at the Y‑12 National Security Complex. On November 10, FI&S employees donated 81 food boxes — each with the ingredients for a full Thanksgiving meal — to Mission of Hope along with a check for $1,050, enough to purchase 105 turkeys to go along with the food boxes. more...
