Emergency response personnel at the Y-12 National Security Complex are responding to an emergency at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee facility.

Representatives of B&W Y-12 and the National Nuclear Security Administration are directing response to the incident and are in contact with state, local, and federal government officials. B&W Y-12 operates Y-12 for NNSA.

Protective actions have been initiated for onsite Y-12 employees as a precaution. The incident involves a hazardous material that could potentially pose a threat to workers in the immediate vicinity of the incident, but not to other employees onsite or to the public. The hazardous material is contained within the affected facility.

No recommendations have been made to State officials regarding protective actions for areas outside of Y-12 and none are anticipated. More information regarding this incident will be provided in subsequent news media advisories.
