Update on Y-12 emergency response

Mon, 4 August 2008

Emergency response personnel at the Y-12 National Security Complex are responding to a fire at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee facility.

The fire, which was extinguished at 8:23 a.m., is not associated with any radioactive materials.

The fire was extinguished by a combination of water sprinkler activation in the building and the response of the Y-12 Fire Department.

As a precautionary measure, employees were evacuated within a 165-foot area from the building.

The two employees who discovered the fire were taken to Y-12 Occupational Health Services for evaluation as a precautionary measure.

The building contains the Rubber Shop, which produces parts for container operations.

Accountability of all employees has been completed.
