Are you close to graduation or have graduated in the past two years? We want you to join our team. Take on the challenges of improving our national security and creating a revolution in manufacturing. We are looking for recent college graduates,
CNS offers internship opportunities both at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. The program allows students to gain real work experience in their field of study while contributing to the nation’s national security mission. Students have the opportunity to attend technical lectures, professional development workshops, and participate in social events. Students will be provided a mentor to help them become more acclimated to the culture and to enhance their overall learning experience. Lastly, students gain exposure to senior leadership during their time on site.
What the 2016 intern class had to say about the program:
- “I took a class related to Y-12’s work and learned about the program. The biggest takeaway has been being able to work on understanding things that no one has studied before. I have enjoyed the chance to do meaningful work and store up pre-graduation experience.”
- “I gained more than technical knowledge as an engineering major. I also got to see the business aspect of the company and how engineers are involved in projects.”
- “I wanted to come to Y-12 because I’ve been fascinated with the Manhattan Project ever since I was old enough to understand what it was and what it stood for. So there’s no place I would rather spend my summer interning… The thing that surprised me the most about Y-12 was the friendliness of the employees and their openness to help you with anything and everything.”
Consider joining the team and being a part of what we deliver for our nation! Internship opportunities will be posted here from September to October for the summer of 2018. To be eligible for a CNS internship, you must meet the following criteria:
- US Citizenship
- Minimum of 2.8 GPA
- Must be of junior, senior, or graduate class status in the appropriate field of study

Two other programs that we think would be of interest to you include the Mentoring and the Job Rotation Programs. The Mentoring Program is designed to match an experienced employee with a new employee to ensure culture and business knowledge is transferred. The Job Rotation program is designed to address the development of employees, support retention efforts, and address the current and future skills and knowledge needs of the company. You will be assigned a mentor when you come to work for us. Job Rotation is a program that you may pursue if you are interested in exploring other internal career opportunities.
If you would like to be considered for an opportunity at Y-12, register and complete your candidate profile. Your profile will be available for managers to review for potential matches to our needs. You may also apply directly for advertised positions that interest you.
Career ONE is Y-12's job rotation program for new graduates. During your time in the program you will gain experience in many of the engineering disciplines that Y-12 offers, as well as, have access to state-of-the-art — and in some cases one-of-a-kind — manufacturing equipment and processes. You will also have the opportunity to attend a variety of exciting workshops and training sessions led by some of the site’s most experienced engineers.
