OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Staff from Los Alamos National Laboratory recently visited the Y-12 National Security Complex to learn about its award-winning Sustainability and Stewardship Program. "By benchmarking the sustainability programs at Y‑12, we'll be able to implement like ideas at LANL," Debbie Bryan-Ricketts said. "We can increase the number of recycling streams and decrease the number of waste streams we have, which helps the environment and allows us to reduce costs."

During the visit, the LANL team toured several of Y‑12's successful program areas, including Pollution Prevention and Recycling. Jan Jackson, Sustainability and Stewardship program manager, said, "We had a great exchange of information with the LANL team. Sharing experiences from our environmental programs with others in the Nuclear Security Enterprise allows both facilities to enhance their programs by building upon the successes from the other sites." Y‑12 consistently has received environmental recognition from local, state and federal agencies for several years.
