Career One

Career ONE is a one year job rotation program in which all new graduates are placed to help them discover which engineering specialty at Y-12 will best suit their skills and interests. During that time they immerse themselves in different engineering disciplines in 3 to 4 month increments. As the participants gain insights into each field, they can better determine which career path is the best fit. Workshops and training sessions led by some of the site’s most experienced engineers further expand participants’ knowledge and technical skills. Plus, newcomers have access to state-of-the-art — and in some cases one-of-a-kind — manufacturing equipment and processes.

Engineering At Y-12

New engineering employees may find themselves working alongside internationally recognized specialists. Pioneering research is under way in such areas as nanotechnology, microwave technology, wireless technology, infrared heating, digital radiography, nuclear materials and technology, global security, and unique instrumentation and manufacturing.

More than 8,000 people work at the Y-12 National Security Complex. As part of the Y-12 team, you will have opportunities to learn from engineers, scientists, technicians, craftspeople, and others who are well respected in their fields. You will also be working in a supportive environment that encourages you to contribute your own knowledge, ideas, and talents toward the advancement of research and development in some of today’s most exciting areas of science and technology.
