Work Life Balance

Working at Y-12 has many advantages. In addition to the many benefit options, Y-12 also offers opportunities for a great work-life balance.

Community Involvement

Y-12 is a proud member of the community. Employees participate in the United Way annual giving campaign and serve as volunteers for charitable groups in the communities where they live and work. Each year Y-12 employees participate in a day of volunteering for local charities (on average 300-plus employees participate each year).

Flexible Work Options

Y-12 encourages employees to achieve a healthy personal balance among home, work and the community. One of the ways we embrace work-life balance is by offering flexible work arrangements that provide alternatives to the traditional workweek, while still meeting business needs.

Most Y-12 employees work four 10 hour days (or 4/10 schedule). Other flexible work options include rescheduling of hours within work period, temporary schedule changes, and alternative work arrangements.

Health Management

Y-12's LiveWise Program helps employees achieve optimal health through measurement and understanding of their health risks and strengths, health coaching, health improvement initiatives, and on-site fitness centers.

On-Site Exercise Programs

A work-out facility is available for employees to help maintain a healthy lifestyle within the time constraints of a busy work schedule.

On-Site Cafeteria

An on-site cafeteria offers breakfast and lunch with healthy menu options. There is also a special "Meals to Go" program. This program offers menu options for take-home evening meals that may be ordered for same day pickup.

On-Site Health Clinic

A professional staff of doctors and nurses offer a variety of services designed to protect and improve the health of Y-12 employees.

Vacation Donation Program

This program provides an opportunity to voluntarily donate vacation leave to support colleagues who have exhausted their paid leave balances due to a medical emergency of a family member.
