OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Charlie Sexton, Y-12 National Security Complex energy manager, was recently named a Sustainability Champion by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sustainability Performance Office at the Department’s sustainability Awards Program in Denver, Colorado. The site also received an honorable mention for its partnership with the National Nuclear Security Administration Production Office, known as NPO, and DOE to maximize sustainable recycling.
Y-12 recently completed installation and startup testing of a new dual-stage paper disintegrator to better support site information security and sustainability practices.
Pantex and Y-12 are recognized across the Nuclear Security Enterprise as sustainability champions. Now the company is poised for broader efforts at both sites to evaluate purchases to ensure they meet or exceed federally required sustainability criteria.
