OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC honored current service members and veterans at an early Armed Forces Day celebration last week at Y-12 National Security Complex.

The program was led by many veterans, including Senior Director of Y-12 Environment, Safety and Health Gene Sievers (U.S. Navy), who recognized prisoners of war and those missing in action by explaining the table set to symbolize those in the armed forces who were missing from the celebration.

Following that somber moment, Lloyd Deserisy (U.S. Air Force) of the National Nuclear Security Administration Production Office recognized members of the audience by branch. He said, “Your dedication and your patriotism makes America the greatest country in the world.”

Retired Air Force Colonel and CNS Vice President of Safeguards, Security and Emergency Services Lyle Cary was the keynote speaker. His inspirational talk ended with this quote from John Wayne: “Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I’m not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be.”

Y-12 Site Manager Bill Tindal closed the program by noting “Our work at Y-12 is vital to national security and our armed forces because our mission is to sustain a safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent.” He further thanked the assembled veterans for continuing their patriotism through their service to Y-12.
