Bechtel-led CNS supports Helene recovery in Tennessee
The Bechtel Group Foundation and CNS contribute $110,000; $50,000 more in matching funds available to employees who donate
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Bechtel-led Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC, (CNS) the management and operating contractor of the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas, has joined with its parent company to donate money in support of victims and communities in recovery from damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Helene in upper East Tennessee.
CNS is making a $10,000 donation to East Tennessee Foundation’s (ETF) Neighbor to Neighbor Disaster Relief Fund. According to ETF, the fund is providing prompt and effective grants to empower local nonprofits and agencies to rescue and recover their own communities amid the devastating impacts from Hurricane Helene. The fund will exclusively support needs in East Tennessee.
The Bechtel Group Foundation, the charitable arm of CNS parent company Bechtel, is donating $100,000 to the Neighbor to Neighbor Disaster Relief Fund. The Bechtel Group Foundation is also matching up to $50,000 in donations made by Y-12, Uranium Processing Facility, and Pantex employees, as well as Bechtel colleagues worldwide.
“Here in Tennessee, Helene claimed lives, destroyed property, and disrupted infrastructure. Some of our colleagues have been directly or indirectly impacted by the storm,” CNS President and CEO Rich Tighe said. “We are choosing to focus our corporate giving on affected East Tennesseans because they are Y-12’s neighbors. Our neighbors need our help.”
Donations are not the only way CNS is supporting communities impacted by Helene. Groups of employees are giving time and supplies as part of Y-12’s Volunteer Month, which is taking place in October. Additionally, Y-12 firefighters and a Y-12 Fire Department tanker deployed to Greeneville, Tenn. When Greeneville’s water system was impacted by catastrophic flooding from Helene, the Y-12 firefighters helped supply water and manpower to support the city’s fire department.
Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC operates the Pantex Plant, located in Amarillo, Texas, and the Y-12 National Security Complex, located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration. Bechtel National, Inc. is the lead member of CNS; minority members include Leidos, Inc.; ATK Launch Systems, LLC; and SOC LLC. Pantex and Y-12 are key facilities in the U.S. Nuclear Security Enterprise, and CNS performs its work with a focus on performance excellence and the imperatives of safety, security, zero defects, and delivery as promised.
